Despite some opposite claims from the “unscientific” world, sea ice extent in the Arctic is still averaging well-below normal and in fact, October 2011 had the second lowest Arctic sea ice extent on record for all Octobers going back to 1979, according to the folks at the National Snow and Ice Data Center.
